Manager Bob Melvin became the winningest manager in the Diamondbacks‘ short history with a 4-2 victory over Colorado on Tuesday, the day outfielder Adam Dunn played his first game with the team after a trade and Randy Johnson got his 294th career victory.
Melvin is 305-302 since taking over to start the 2005 season, after the D-backs first hired Wally Backman but rescinded the offer four days later and offered Melvin the job.
Bob Brenly was 303-262 in 3 1/2 seasons, leading the D-backs to the World Series title in his first season before being fired midway through a 111-loss 2004. Buck Showalter was 250-236 in three seasons.
